Contextual Inquiry / Field Visits

My Philoshophy

Contextual inquiry is a structured method for performing field interviews or field visits. The goal of any contextual inquiry or field visit is to observe the user in their native environment -- because the context of use is essential to any design. The users' true environment cannot be replicated in a lab, therefore field visits are an extremely valuable tool. The visit also establishes a personal connection and partnership with the user which can be useful later in the design process as well.

Field visits can be conducted in the work environment or home environment depending on the product under design.
